How We Rated The Bike Panniers

Whether we are travelling to the office or going on a long bike ride, myself and other cyclists within the Darimo UK team use pannier bags on a regular basis. As you can see from the photos below (and the main photo at the top), we’ve tried and tested a range of pannier bags upon a number of different types of bikes. We also tested both small and large bike panniers as well as those suitable for all budgets.

The premium Ortleib pannier (as pictured below) offered excellent waterproof qualities but the premium price tag makes it less of an attractive option. Therefore, we also tested other pannier bags that were cheaper or offered other benefits such as additional storage space or the ability to transform into a backpack.

As well as our experience and testing of multiple pannier bags, we also based our recommendations upon plenty of research and a number of factors. Some of the factors that we considered included the construction quality, capacity, storage options, ease of installation, waterproof qualities, colour options, additional accessories, warranty and value.

Conclusion

Pannier bags are the best way to commute with all your belongings and they are available in a wide range of designs. Most come as a set of two or three bags whereas others are a single bag with a large capacity and multiple pockets.

All of our recommendations are suitable for all budgets and can be installed to most bikes in a matter of minutes. If the pannier bags you choose aren’t waterproof, we strongly recommend investing into a rain cover for those rainy days.
